Appalachian Mountain Range Region
Map
The center point of the Appalachian Mountain Range Region is Mount Carleton Provincial Park. This park has several beautiful lakes nestled in between the highest peaks in Atlantic Canada. The most popular is Nictau Lake.
The lakes flow in different directions into three major river systems. The Nepisiguit flows to the east crossing the province to Bathurst, the Upsalquitch flows north to Campbellton at the mouth of Chaleur Bay, and the Tobique flows southwest and into the St. John River. This made Mount Carleton an ancient travel hub for First Nations traveling around the province, back when canoes were the primary mode of transport.
